Once per session each player may opt to roll the Labyrinth Lord’s big purple d30 in lieu of whatever die or dice the situation normally calls for. The choice to roll the big purple D30 must be made before any roll. The d30 cannot be roll for generating character statistics or hit points".
Soon after, we see this post from sirlarkins at The RPG Corner:

I commented on both posts on how I also used the d30 in a similar manner in my campaign:

I have a d30, but we used it to roll under stats for saves sometimes in D&D 3e. I don't think its seen use in 2 years. Maybe its time to change that!
Haha, yeah that is pretty awesome. A d30 is one of the few dice I don't own (ironically I have a d34), but that is a pretty creative and fun way of using it.

Heh--that's a cool houserule. Like supercharging the roll. I'll have to try that in our Pathfinder game this week, if my group is on board.

Zach, no prob. But, am I correct in thinking that the rule covers 1 total roll? i.e. 3[w]+Str role = d30+Str roll?
At least, that's how I'll be using it. But I'm just curious how others interpret it.
Also, I'll try and put the logo on my blog. But all I have is one straight from wordpress and I don't have access to the HTML. (Anyone know of a good wordpress blogsite with the ability to code it yourself?)
The way I use it is as a substitute for any one dice thrown. So say if someone has a weapon that normally does 2d10 damage, instead of rolling d10+d10 (adding modifiers), they now roll d30+d10 (adding modifiers). In other words, it just replaces the dice--mods and the like are still added. Hopefully, that will work well--if it doesn't, you can always change it up.

Well, despite informing all of them just prior to gameAND keeping the d30 out infront of them, they all forgot the rule. They did seem eager to try it though, so hopefully we'll be able to try again.

Hey, it'll likely take a session or two to remember. But when the game's on the line and they get to possibly "supercharge" damage or a saving throw--they'll remember then. :)
One guy I played with used the rule whenever he cast Magic Missile at a major villain.
This houserule is totally awesome! The d30 rules!
I used it in Chgowiz's S&W game at Gen Con when I hit a monster with my lantern (don't ask). When Chgowiz was about to roll damage for the flaming oil bursting from the busted lamp, I grabbed the d30 and rolled... a 29.
So freaking awesome.

It is pretty freakin' awesome, isn't it? Spread the word--no reason it can't be used in 4e as well, right?
Tonight marked the first appearance of the d30 in my Mutant Future campaign, and the players took full advantage - and everyone who rolled it got higher than a 20! Much fun was had by all and to be honest, the 30 sided lump of love may have saved the party's ass tonight. Sure, one of the characters died anyways, but we almost had a TPK on our hands and those critical hits with the d30 turned the tide of battle! Rock on, Order of the d30!
I wonder if I can talk my DM into adopting this house rule...

I recently got wind of the Order of the d30 and added a link on my blog.
The Order seems to be picking up steam!
I used to use a 30-sider in Heroes Unlimited and Ninjas and Super-spies for certain character types. It gave those classes and powers (speedsters and some martial artists) a greater chance of hitting while making their chance of a crit less.
We use the mighty D30 at both Zalchis, and at Netherwerks.

I've decided to make Fridays "d30 Day" on my blog Save Vs. Dragon, and try to develop a d30 mechanic or generation table to be posted every Friday. I've started with a PDF showing the d30 as a d10% roll with the outcome/effect built in. There's also a table showing the d30 as a bell-curved d10.
Count me in! After a long journey I finally found the white d30 and hereby declare “The Big White D30 Rule”.
With last night's slaying of an ogre in pursuit by the halfling thief (first roll of the d30 rule in effect = ... 30!) I hereby pledge allegiance to the cause of the d30. Finally I have one!
