I'm thinking of running a 2-hour gaming block at Gen Con on Saturday, so some of the 1-day badge folks can get in some gaming without blowing their entire day. I was considering using Microlite74 for the system (though Swords & Wizardry remains in the mix). I want a game of pure old-school, avaricious dungeon crawling. Here's the pitch I'm considering:
Microlite74: Smash n' Grab At Kobold Caverns
While the Kobolds have marched out to rout the Baron's army, your village decides it's time to make up for a poor harvest by snatching whatever they can from the now (allegedly) lightly-defended Kobold lair. But the kobolds haven't completely abandoned their caverns, and no treasure goes unguarded...
A 2-hour quick-play block. Basic rules available at http://www.retroroleplaying.com/content/microlite74. Characters provided. A prize for the player who grabs the most loot (and still makes it out alive)!
Anyone interested in playing or have feedback? If you think you'll be at Gen Con and want to play Saturday A.M., let me know and I'll be sure to let you know when the event opens!

Having run microlite74 at WinterWar with my own Kobolds Cave of Terror, I can tell you that it is indeed fast, fun and easy to use. My pregen char sheets had the relevant rules for their particular class right on the sheet. My players handout listed the 5 main rules for m74 and away we went. I have no doubt that any familiar with the concept of d20 or SRD type of games will be able to jump in quickly.
Your scenario sounds like fun!
Sounds great to me!
I really like the idea of short convention games and I naturally think M74 is a great choice in rules. :)
BTW, I'm finally working on Microlite74 2.0 this weekend. There will be no major changes to the basic rules (see here for a running list of changes as I make them). The spell lists and monsters from any 0e game will be drop in replacements for the simplified lists in the M74 rules.
While no major changes to the main rules will be made, a number of independent "supplemental rules" will be available for GMs to customize their game.
Since I've never played before, I'd be up for it. :)
Awesome. Chgowiz, your Winter War posts were naturally a big influence. I even plan to use your one-room dungeon template (I think!) for mapping!
@Randall: Superb. Thanks for the link! If you're gonna be there, you're welcome to *play* (for a change, I imagine)!
@Tony: I'll be sure to let you know when it opens! It would be Saturday, before the GM's seminar...which I'm still working on, but got submitted.
Zachary: I'd love to actually *play*, but we're still paying medical bills this year so travel in out. If the game is a success this year, maybe in 2010?
@Randall: No prob! Consider your seat reserved. I just imagined with developing something, you have to run and don't get to play it as much. :)
