Friday Discussion: What We're Playing/Running (Or Wish We Were)

Another Friday, another day of a flatlined blogging community. What do you people do Friday, actually work instead of blog? Shocking.

We here at RPG Blog II, however, know that Fridays are our days to relax, kick back, and have a nice little back-and-forth on whatever the day's topic might be. Nothing strenuous, nothing deep, just good old-fashioned gamer talk.

Today's topic is one that should have plenty of good answers, and best of all, it's a two-parter:

What are you running/playing right now? What do you wish you were running/playing?

Comment below, and happy weekend! Here at the Houghton household, we're preparing for the arrival of Future Gamer #3, so if I'm scarce, I have only the very best of excuses.

My group meets irregular and typically for only short periods. We tend to play Pathfinder Society Games because of the compartimentalized adventure approach.

I would like to have ongoing campaigns of Pathfinder, CoC and Champions.

Currently running a group through Pazio's Second Darkness AP. However both the Party and myself are little burned out.

As to what I wish to be running. That's simple, I want to run a bit of Classic Traveller. Which is actually going to happen once this current Adventure is tied up. Likely be able to start something next month.

Actually this friday, I've been working on my side RPG project, so while I can't blog yet about it. I am doing something RPG related.

Let us know on your project, bonemaster! I'll be looking for it!

My group is using 3.5, but will be switching to Pathfinder soon. I'm also working on a new (Mongoose) Traveller campaign.

Honest to god, nearly anything. My newborn son just turned 6 weeks old, so let's just say time has been tight, and I've been lucky to get in the occasional boardgame. I really want to get more 4E on, and I'd love to play some Hunter and maybe get some Homebrew on.

I've got some playtest files for a new Trail of Cthulhu book to run through with my group next week.

I'm also in a playtest group for Little Fears: Nightmare Edition with Jason Blair as the GM.

So, lots of playtesting going on currently.

At the moment, I'm still running my AD&D game every other Friday. I'd like to do a little more board gaming, and am looking for an excuse (and the time) to go full-tilt into Field of Glory...

I'm running Labyrinth Lord and I couldn't be happier. There are other great games out there but I'm still in the honeymoon phase of the campaign and couldn't care less about other systems.

I'd really enjoy playing someone else's old school D&D game. I'm not particular about which iteration of the game, so long as there was a sandbox wilderness and a megadungeon.

I'm running exactly what I want to run - OD&D/AD&D games. I couldn't be happier.

And congrats on #3! You know that the third one is easiest, right?

#1 - you sterilize the bottles.
#2 - you wash the bottles.
#3 - you wipe the bottletop and call it good.

I'm running and playing D&D 3.5 in six campaigns.

I've started running an irregular Labyrinth Lord game for the kids of my best friend, and I'd love to play more Labyrinth Lord.

I'd love to play Burning Wheel, Burning Empires, Mouse Guard, Spirit of the Century, Traveller, Zorceror of Zo, Faery's Tale Deluxe, Swords & Wizardry or Risus at a real table, in a regular campaign.

Currently we're playing Savage Worlds, in a homebrew setting called Elves & Espers, and in a Warhammer 40K Inquisition setting. When my friend Russ is in town he GMs a D&D 3.5 game. A second set of friends plays a super old-school AD&D homebrew.

I'm considering giving Tunnels & Trolls a whirl as a play-by-forum game. SW's combat is too fiddly for that, I think, while it plays to T&T's strengths.

I'm not playing anything. You can tell because I've been adding an extra dash of asshole to most of my posts lately. Emeril BAM!

I wish I was playing D&D 4e, specifically the Eden games I'm planning. In fact, I wish I had a clone, who could run them for me to play. A delicious gender-swapped clone, specifically tailored to my interests... then both of us would never be lonely!

Wyatt, you alternately amuse and disturb me, my friend.

We just wrapped up a very short L5R game and are about to continue a short nWoD Precinct 13 type game. Then it's Weapons of the Gods!

I wish I were playing running In Harms Way or something in the same genre.

Zachary The First said...

@MountZionRyan: I'd love to play some In Harm's Way.

LOL @ Chgowiz--yep, that appears to be the trend!

@Rob: I've heard really good things about Hunter. Thinking about trying to get into a game at Gen Con.

@Jeff: I love playing in someone else's D&D game. It's like a trip to a nearby foreign country--different rules, different ways of doing things, but still some recognizable bits of home!

Pretty divergent groups of games thus far...

I'm currently running two different D&D 4E campaigns. I wish I was playing in a 4E game, specifically Wyatt's shiny looking Eden games, but he picked the busiest week in the next decade to run them, so I just don't have time.

Wyatt is simultaneously happy hardcore and nightmare fuel unleaded.

I'm currently running a FUDGE based PbeM pulp-ish game set in pre-WWII Alaska and a FATE+Exalted hybrid F2F+PbeM game about revolution and revolt.

I wish I was playing something closer to home geographically, my gaming group is about 600 miles away. Lately I've been itching to try out Traveller again.

We're currently playtesting In Harm's Way: StarCluster. So far we've tested SpecOps and big-ship space combat, next fighters, and then vehicle combat.

I'm currently playing in an Exalted 2nd edition game over IRC. What I'd really like to be doing is running some kind of Castles and Crusades game, but issues of time and player availability always seem to get in the way.

Helmsman said...

Sundays is the Supa-epic Exalted 2.0 over Skype which has ran for over 2 years. Working on a custom system and hoping to playtest it in a 1920's Pulp Adventure setting. Reading Hollow Earth Expedition currently for inspiration on the pulp setting. Oh, and I'm playing a couple erraticly scheduled Exalted games over Skype and OpenRPG and a custom anime setting with airships in the Exalted system...

Zachary The First said...

I’ve always been a sucker for airships…

Helmsman said...

Same here. Biggest appeal in gaming to me is exploration, and I love playing a pilot... there's just something romantic about controlling your home which takes you new and exciting places.

Running one 4e game, playing in another.

Always have a hankering to run some Modern something or another.

Blotz said...

We just started an new D&D 3.5 game set in a variant, low magic Waterdeep where all the PC's are rookie members of the City Watch. It's kinda D&D by Steven Bochco.

And I just joined my first PBem game, a Warhammer fantasy RP game.

Wish I could find a good superhero game to play, and I hope to have castles and crusades sandboxy thing going by the end of the month.\

Oh yeah... congrats! We've got gamer #3 coming at the end of the month as well!

This weekend is sort of up in the air, have a old friend who's in town and we may do something interesting there.

Maybe Star Wars using Age of Heroes...

clash bowley said...

Oh! I'm also running my StarCluster IRC game, which is now in its sixth year. This campaign started with StarCluster 1E, switched to 2E, and will probably survive into 3E when I release it.

Playing: Weekly 2e + homebrew talent system and biweekly 3.5/Pathfinder.

When the latter adventure ends (next week, I hope) I'll be jumping ship for a group with rotating GMs & games -- think they're currently doing Paranoia.

Also playtesting a friend's game, Fang, which as far as I can tell aims to be an emulator for Heavy Metal magazine covers.

Running: Nothing, but I think I'm going to try and get pick-up West Marches type game going this spring, using Swords & Wizardry or Labyrinth Lord.

Will run Encounter Critical anytime.

I am currently starting a new campaign, running Eden's Witchcraft. My second session is this Sunday.

As for what I would like to be playing...I just bought the PDF for Mutant City Blues, and I am loving that game.

I don't think I've commented on this blog before, so hi!

I am currently playing in an Exalted game. It's been going on for a few months now, we play usually every week.

I'd like to play in a play-by-post of some sort. I've done one in the past, and it was fun for me, but it died and I've not played in another since.

Cheers,

Playing: Nothing, since last fall.

Like to be playing: Witchcraft, Buffy, Dresden Files, maybe Amber.

Like to be GMing: A sandbox fantasy, a CSI: Sumaria campaign, or (this one I'm actually working on) a steampunky pirates versus the evil nazis sort of thing.

Systems I'm currently into: Unisystem, Savage Worlds, & (potentially, but not from actual experiance) Mutants and Masterminds.

Running Traveller face-to-face, and playing in Trollsmyth's Labyrinth Lord chat game. It's a combination I'm pretty happy with, though I would like to get a chance to play either 4e D&D or Vampire, and I'm hoping to get a chance to run a little Swords & Wizardry megadungeon soon.

Play testing Zombipocalypse

Alpha testing via net meeting with Saida: All Squirrels Must Be Eaten.

I can't seem to escape the zombies...

Zachary The First said...

@HinterWelt: And here I thought squirrels were your weakness! :)

@nanobri: Welcome! Thanks for taking time to comment!

@Oddysey: I'm following your megadungeon escapades. Nice work thus far!

@Sean: The setting you're working on sounds cool! Steampunky pirates? I'm in. I'd also love to play some Amber.

clash bowley said...

OH! I'm also playing in a PBP game if IHW: Wild Blue, run by Micheal Scott.

I *think* That's everythign. My IRC In Harm's Way game is on hiatus 'til summer.
