The Great RPG Tournament: We Crown Our Champion!

I decided to wait on the final games of the Great RPG Tournament until the actual NCAA tourney was about to be decided. But it's that time, to see which of our contestants is bringing home the tourney trophy. Here were our final match-ups:

Warhammer Fantasy vs. D&D 3.5
-Does D&D have anything left in the tank? Warhammer takes no prisoners.

D&D 3.5 did its level best, but Warhammer cheerily obliterated it.
Winner: Warhammer Fantasy

Hackmaster vs. Labyrinth Lord
-Does the Hack stop here? Can Labyrinth Lord finish the dream season?

Hackmaster turned in a grinding, solid performance to wear down Labyrinth Lord.
Winner: Hackmaster

So, then it was time for the Championship Game.

Warhammer Fantasy vs. Hackmaster
.

Warhammer looked unstoppable.

Warhammer had wiped out every competitor it went up against.

Warhammer was the odds-on favorite to win this match-up.

None of that mattered to Hackmaster.

Warhammer hadn't come up against a competitor that could meet its level of Hack until it met Hackmaster. And in the end, bloodied, bruised, but victorious, there stood your 2009 Great RPG Tournament Champion:

Hackmaster

Someone please inform Dave Kenzer, Jolly Blackburn, and company so they can accept their award.

If you're anything like me, your bracket blew up in your face. Did anyone have close to the right winner? I have to admit, I did not see this coming, but that's why they play the game, I guess!

You know, this entire tourney has given me an idea for a more democratic project. Stay tuned this week to find out more! And I'll see you next year for the 2010 Tourney--can Hackmaster make the big dance again to defend its title?

Congrats to the winner. It's been a tough battle for all contenders with a few bum calls (I still say the Rules Cyclopedia was robbed!), but overall it's been a good, clean fight.

Loved this! What's next? :D

lol...well, I'm trying to keep us all entertained. I'll be starting a new, interactive project on here tomorrow morning! I think folks who liked this will really enjoy the project as well...

After the second round, I got crushed. But still tons of fun to follow. This was a great idea and I'm psyched to see what you come up with next year.

I would just suggest that the final game be done on Monday like the real tournament.

Congrats to Hackmaster!

Noooooo!

;-)

As the seconds ticked down on the second half, and the Hackmaster victory was assured, a shadowy figure in a cloak was seen to shuffle painfully down from the nosebleed section of the arena.

"Wouldn't gone down like that back in my day. Hackmaster wouldn't have even made it out of the locker room. What's the use selling out to the Ruinous Powers if you're not going to use the gifts that they give you? Gotta have a talk with that no-good young-un. Set him straight on how to play this game..."

:-)

Thanks a lot - this was a lot of fun!
