Friday Discussion: How Often Do You Frequent the FLGS?

Another week gone, but we here at RPG Blog 2 know just what to do to keep the good times rolling into the weekend. That's right, it's time for another round of Friday Discussion. Nothing too heavy, nothing too serious--just a bunch of gamers talking about their hobby.

This week's discussion question is: How often do you frequent your FLGS (Friendly Local Gaming Store)? If you're lucky enough to have one, what would you do to improve it? If you've had a good or bad experience lately, here's where to share as well.

Have a great weekend, and May Cold Steel Avail You!

I try to frequent my FLGS at least twice a month. However in the lull between 3.5 and Pathfinder there isn't much to go in for. I frequent my VLGS (Paizo.com, Rpgnow.com) several times a week.

Mine isn't that "L", so not very often.

I live in New Jersey, which has far fewer gaming stores than you'd think. There's a trio of good stores about an hour from my house; I try to drive over to them every other month or so.

With finances as they are right now, I'm only going to Fandom II about once a month.

I love the place.

I use to frequent at least once a week if not more. But lately, I've not been participating in my Friday game which also has not been held at my FLGS's new location. Kind of a bummer as I've spent many a friday there gaming till late.

My FLGS is also my comic store so I visit about once a week. I try to buy two gaming items a month.

I like to use my FLGS as much as possible and will ask them to order things in for me rather than online. They failed me when I asked them to order my a copy of Burning Wheel.

I almost NEVER stop by my FLGS, zip, zilch, notta.

That being said I do stop by my FCGS, the Friendly Childhood Gaming Store.

Everytime I have an excuse to drive past my old hometown I stop in and buy between 3 months and a years worth of stuff.

I never game in the FLGS, but I started out gaming in my FCGS and as such I like to think the stores investment in putting up with a snot nosed kid for a few years justifies my continuing patronage.

I know Im not alone in this either.

Crom's devils, I have no Friendly Local Gaming Store. This burg HAD one, but it went under. No, we have only the Local Games Store, which stopped being Friendly shortly after I was fired from it.

I go once or twice a month, though as Mark points out there has been quite a lull recently of anything I want to get.

I only shop there - I'm not a "FLGS gamer" and don't look for that (or really, want that) in a gaming store.

On average once a month. There is no real reason to go more than that since they have a very small selection of new products. I do enjoy looking through the old stuff.

Then once a season or so a friend and I do a road trip to a city and goggle every gaming store we can find and hit them all. We are doing in tomorrow. I hope to find some gems out there.

I do a circuit of the downtown bookstores and stop at my Game Store about every other week. It is cheaper to buy at the store then online and they have a good selection of even small press game supplies.

Well, here in NZ, in a large town that isn't one of the 4 biggest cities, we don't have one. Used to be one in the nearest city (45 mins drive) but it folded about the same time as print Dragon & Dungeon went.

I get the feeling the rise of pdf sales did in the smaller games shops, as with the exchange rate and shipping, an average (for example) D&D 3.5 'core' book costed $80 - $90 NZ, which is more than most students/teens can afford, and isn't even too good for us with jobs...

Still, I do call in when in the bigger cities and see what's new, but mostly dominated by Wizards & Warhammer...

I go twice a month, mainly to pick up comics from my teen daughter's mailbox. I have been ordering Castles & Crusades stuff there lately, providing them with an additional economic stimulus package. The staff is great (The Comic Store, Lancaster, PA).

It really varies for me. The most local gaming store is friendly, but only carries the D&D 4th books that I already have. I stop in to look over the board games they have there but don't buy that often.

About once a month I swing by either Black & Read or Attactix to shop around a little - B&R has a nice discount along with used games and it's a used bookstore, so it's fun to browse but a distance from home. Attactix is a bit further to get to, but will have things B&R doesn't have at times, so occasionally I drop by there as well.

But you know, sometimes I just grab something from the Barnes & Nobles... they give me a discount as well, and are much more handy to visit.
