No More Rouse At WotC

I was genuinely sorry to see yesterday that Scott Rouse is no longer at Wizards of the Coast. Mr. Rouse as D&D Brand Manager was, in my eyes, a goodwill ambassador, often going to bat for gamers against the more corporate ideologies or realities of his company. I can't think of many jobs in gaming that would be harder, but I think he tried his best in difficult circumstances--the GSL debacle and change, the pulling of the pdfs, the edition changeover in general. I definitely believe this is Wizards' loss, and I wish Mr. Rouse the best wherever he lands.

Privateer Press recently announced that they were starting development on a new RPG system for Iron Kingdoms. This is probably coincidence, but they are also in the Seattle area.

There are a couple of companies in that area that sort of have me wondering...

It would be strange for him to leave on his own accord for a smaller company. Since there's no mention of him being laid off, I can only assume he is leaving of his own volition.

Possibly he got a better offer somewhere. Videogames? WotC is mad to let him go, though. He's a master of PR damage control, and they really, really need one.

I was wondering about the WotC job posting for a brand manager that I saw over at Purple Pawn, but I never put 2 and 2 together and realized that Scott was out.

Pity-- he did seem like a good enough guy.

Interesting- I hadn't seen this... I only really know the name from Necromancer Games constantly citing him as why 4E/GSL was going to be so fabulous...

@nitessine: I looked through the thread to see where he said it was his choice, and couldn't really find any.... "leaving to pursue opportunities in the industry" sounds a lot like when some zillion dollar CEO with two kids in college leaves a job "to spend time with my family"...

He might have had something else lined up in advance, but if he was downsized/broomed I'll be curious to see what happens next.

Indeed, my evidence consists of the fact that previously when WotC has laid off people it's been announced that they were laid off.

I am curious who's gonna replace him, though.
