One of my favorite parts after a gaming session is heading home while recapping the night’s events with some of the guys. It’s almost like an NFL post-game show, only without all the laughing about Token Minority Athlete’s wardrobe choices or canned jokes from Washed-Up Old Coach. The decisions of the night, verbal replays of some of the gaffes and successes, and analysis of where the night’s events just seem to help extend out the merriment. We’re tired, it’s late, but we’re still fired up from the game. It’s fun to joke about the kills, the misses, the triumphs and the failures. It’s those times as a GM you see that maybe something you guys created together really brings enjoyment that lasts beyond those 3-4 hours of gaming. In a way, you’re creating legends, even if it’s only for a half-dozen people.
A couple hours after the last session ended, well into the next early morning, I got a text from one of the players, which read:
CAN WE CALL EVERYONE AND GET THEM BACK TOGETHER? WANT TO PLAY AGAIN.
GMs, take a minute and hang out after the game. It can be well worth it.
