Beards On Female Dwarves: Ken St. Andre Weighs In

I heard from Tunnels & Trolls creator Ken St. Andre on the Great Female Dwarven Beard Question, and I thought I'd share his response:

Well, mine don't. It would depend, of course, on how the master sculptor carved them before Gristlegrim brings them to life with the Pygmalion spell. See attached picture for Thorn, the female dwarf hero of my new T & T novel, Rose of Stormgaard, currently being serialized at erbzine.com.

And that brings up an idea for the next question that has divided gamers for millennia - must all Dwarfs carry axes?

Yes. Swords are poison to a proper D&D dwarf.

For Tolkien, Thorin had Orcrist Goblin-Cleaver, so swords are cool for dwarves there.

That settles it then. Ken really is one of the true solons of our hobby. If he says they don't have beards, then they don't.
